Singlemode fiber is capable of higher data rates over greatly increased distances. Our multi-mode products are tested for in excess of two kilometers our single-mode products are tested for ten kilometers and beyond.

Although singlemode depends on more-costly lasers, whereas multimode uses light-emitting diode (LED) technology, the higher investment is offset by the fact that singlemode cable is significantly less than multimode and is normally used for very long segments.
